Discover Why Yoga For Kids Is As Much Important As Adults

Yoga presented in a child’s language can help counter the stress experienced by little ones living in a hurry-up world. Our children live in a hurry-up world of busy parents, school pressures, video games, malls, and competitive sports. We usually don’t think of these influences as stressful for our kids, but often they are. The bustling pace of our children’s lives can have a profound effect on their innate joy and usually not for the better.

Children acquire enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves.

Doing yoga, children exercise, play, connect more deeply with the inner self, and develop an intimate relationship with the natural world that surrounds them. Yoga brings that inner light that all children have to the surface.

Children deal with many distractions, temptations, overstimulation and peer pressure. Schools are challenged to do more with less and be creative in how they reach even the most isolated child.

Yoga is a low-cost, helpful physical exercise that can have a positive impact on children.

Here are some of the many benefits of teaching yoga to kids:

Yoga helps kids to:

  • Develop body awareness
  • Learn how to use their bodies in a healthy way
  • Manage stress through breathing, awareness, meditation and healthy movement
  • Build concentration
  • Increase their confidence and positive self-image
  • Feel part of a healthy, non-competitive group
  • Have an alternative to tuning out through constant attachment to electronic devices

Things To Consider When You Are Practicing Yoga With Kids

  • Feel free to adapt or change the yoga poses to suit your needs.
  • Focus on having fun with movement, not on practicing perfectly aligned poses.
  • Engage the children. Follow their passions and interests.
  • Create authentic, meaningful experiences.
  • Cater to their energy levels and different learning styles.
  • Be creative and enjoy yourselves, but please be safe.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and practice barefoot.
  • Play yoga games to engage them in learning about the poses.
